Nike SB Dunk Low "Gulf" Pays Homage to the Legendary Porsche 917 Gulf

Nike (NYSE:NKE -1.31%) ‘s skate-focused Nike SB sub-label is continuing its run of Porsche race car-inspired sneakers, as after the SB Dunk Low “Pink Pig” appeared in recent weeks we now have a look at official images of the SB Dunk Low “Gulf.” Inspired by the legendary Porsche 917 Gulf track car from the ’70s, the “Gulf” repurposes its inspiration color palette and numeric branding for a look that fuses the world of skate and motorsports.

Suede uppers are dressed in a signature “Blue Chill” tone, accented by a bold white midfoot Swoosh with black trim. The signature detail, however, arrives via circular “58” badges on the lateral heel and tongue. This embellishment originally lead many to assume that this low-cut SB Dunk was dubbed the “Club 58,” after the eponymous skateshop collective. However, it’s very possible that this choice of number on the “Gulf” does indicate that Club 58 had a hand in its creation: there was never a #58 917, as the highest marker number it reached was #21.

Besides these special details, the “Gulf” is rounded off by a puffy “Blue Chill” tongue, black heel branding, black shoelaces, a white midsole with black stitching and a bold “Safety Orange” outsole that nods to the high-performance automobile’s lower half.

The Nike SB Dunk Low “Gulf” will release this March via the Nike webstore, and is priced at $100 USD.
